Self-Imposed Limitations

I have run into many versions of limitation in my life but they were usually self-imposed.  This is a result of allowing irrational fears and doubt to overthrow my confidence and belief.  I began to change after the first time I heard a well known analogy:

To keep an elephant in place, handlers use small ropes tied to the ground with tiny sticks.  The elephant can easily break away from the rope but it does not.  That's because when the elephant was younger and smaller the same size rope was used to tie them and, at that age it’s enough to hold them.  They try to escape for a while and eventually give up.  When they are older and stronger they still obey the limitation, even though it no longer exists.

These days instead of accepting that I’m tied down; I’m never afraid to tug on the rope a little.  I often find that my limitations are not real, just a baby-elephant-like conditioning.

The Real Ladder Of Success

The ladder of success isn’t a ladder, it’s a series of steps with gaps interspersed along the way.  Only those that take leaps and risk the fall will rise.  Then there comes a point where the gaps are too far apart and you’ll need to create the steps that don’t exist.  This is where people freeze, trapped between where they are and where they want to be.  This space is where you innovate instead of replicate, lead instead of follow, and stand out instead of blending in.

Discovering Your Freedom

Trying to be more than I am is who I am.  Not because I'm never satisfied but because it's so much fun.

I don't think that exploring your capabilities is extreme, I think it’s a natural human tendency.  You can think of it as breaking your limitations or you can think of it as discovering your freedom.

Bankruptcy of the Soul

Entangled in the cancerous discipline of security, I flinged my life beneath the wheels of routine and before I knew it my life was gone.  I always wanted to sail the seven seas but I couldn’t afford it.  What I really couldn’t afford was not to go.

Which shall it be? Bankruptcy of the pocket or bankruptcy of the soul?”

When the Wave Comes

Think of a balloon flying through the air with no control of it’s destination.  I think everyone needs to have that experience once in their life. Go on an adventure with no expectations.  Just let go and allow the natural flow of life to take a hold of your destiny.

Of course the balloon will eventually lose it’s helium and drop.  You’ll end up somewhere you’ve never been before, feeling calm and content.  In the horizon you’ll see an approaching wave of goals, expectations and desires.  You can run in the opposite direction but you’ll end up running forever.  When the wave comes it’s time for you to take a deep breath and ride it.
